WCC’s board opposes state issue #1 on the August 8 to amend the Ohio Constitution to make it virtually impossible for Ohio citizens to pass ballot initiatives. It has three provisions:

  •  require 60% of voters to pass vs. a simple majority now–will go into effect immediately if passed.
  •  require petition signatures from all 88 Ohio counties vs. 44 counties now and 5 percent of the most recent gubernatorial vote in that county. This would go into effect starting January 1, 2024.
  • eliminate cure period to collect additional signatures if the number originally submitted is short, also to start next January 1.

This proposed amendment is an attack on direct democracy; it is unnecessary, unfair, and unpopular. It is also directly aimed at thwarting a campaign to protect reproductive rights. WCC urges voters to VOTE NO on August 8. Voters weren’t expecting an August election, so help get the word out to your family and friends.

Common Cause Ohio, Fair Districts, and the League of Women Voters Ohio and many other groups in the state are organizing an ambitious Vote no on August 8 campaign.

Woman’s City Club endorsed this proposed Ohio constitutional amendment to protect the reproductive rights of women and girls. Now let’s get to work collecting signatures to get this amendment on the November 2023 ballot. Petitions packets are available at the office of Woman’s City Club, 103 Wm. H. Taft Road 45219. Office is open M-W-F 10-2 but best call ahead (513-751-0100) to make sure someone is in.

Members are continuing to collect signatures. Come to the WCC office to pick up one or ask Jan Seymour (fergysgirl@gmail.com) to hand deliver one to you. Special treatment for you who want to help the cause!

You can do this! You are smart and you care and you know people who will thank you for asking them to sign. Take it with you to meetings, to your neighbors, and to your Ohio family.

A few important things to remember:

  • You may not sign you own petition
  • Your petition must be limited to the County you choose – Hamilton, Butler, Warren, Clermont – NO MIXING COUNTIES
  • Sign and date when finished to confirm you witnessed all signatures
