An informal book club meets via Zoom most months, usually the third Saturday at 10 am, to discuss a book of common interest to WCC members. The club members select the books from those others in the group recommend. WCC members should check the Monday Update and the Bulletin for announcements of meetings and book selections. WCC members may join the monthly discussions any time, depending on their availability and interest but must RSVP to receive the zoom link. Contact Sarah Gideonse@fuse.net for more information and to join.
ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION GROUP works on projects that green the urban environment and elevate eco-awareness. It works collaboratively with the Sierra Club and other "green" organizations. It seeks out projects for reducing use of disposable plastics and policies like community gardens that could mitigate food deserts. Learn more (link) For more information and to join, contact the chair Jeanne Nightingale
EDUCATION ACTION GROUP supports excellence in public education and advocates for policies, resources, and services that improve children’s lives and prepare them for future success. EAG deliberates on state and local policy issues and proposed legislation and school levies and makes recommendations to the board for action. It works with the Program Committee to plan programs on educational issues, seeking out collaborations with like minded groups. It also seeks out volunteer opportunities for members depending on their interests and available time. Read more. To join the committee, contact chair Sarah Gideonse.
SOCIAL JUSTICE ACTION GROUP addresses inequities due systemic poverty and inequality, racism, and sexism. Each year, the Action Group may select one or two issues to focus on, such as empowering voters in under-resourced neighborhoods. To join, contact (TBA). Read more: (link)
EVENT PLANNING COMMITTEES
PROGRAM COMMITTEE: This committee plans public forums held several times throughout the year to educate the public about issues concerning the community. The committee selects topics, speakers, content, and format; identifies venues, and actively promotes each forum to members and the public. Topics respond to ideas proposed at the annual members' meeting and to emerging issues. The EAG invites like minded organizations to cosponsor the forums for help in planning and in reaching larger audiences.
I Check out last year's forums in the 2024-2025 Annual report (link) and current programs in the weekly Update. Contact Anne Buening, chair, for more information and to join.
NATIONAL SPEAKER'S FORUM COMMITTEE meets monthly throughout the year to plan the annual National Speaker Forum in March or April. The forum offers the greater Cincinnati community an opportunity to hear a nationally known woman speaker. Each summer the committee selects its speaker, who will talk about her work and a topic of current relevance. The event is also the major fundraiser for the Club.
Members can work in one or more subcommittees. One finds the speaker each year. One committee seeks out sponsors of the event. Another identifies and seeks out potential community partners @$300 that widen the audience and receive tickets in exchange. Nuts and bolts subcommittees work on the venue, the reception, writing, and marketing.

SEASONGOOD LUNCHEON COMMITTEE plans the annual spring Agnes B. Seasongood Luncheon that features a woman leader in the Cincinnati area. The luncheon is also the occasion of the Marian Spencer Education awards to encourage responsible civic awareness among high school senior women applying for the awards. The committee select them on the basis of their essays and teacher recommendations.
The committee selects the speaker and the venue and arranges the lunch.
An Education Awards subcommittee develops the application, including the topic the essays should address. It sends this information to all Cincinnati area high schools, soliciting applications from young women who are graduating. A review committee reads the essays, and using a rubric to rank them, selects the winners. The number of scholarships available each year determines the number of awards..

FEIST TEA -- The committee produces the annual Feist-Tea, an enjoyable winter event when we gather for an elegant tea to honor three or four of our most feisty members and a feisty community member, whom we hold up as examples to emulate as we work toward fulfilling our purpose as a club. Members plan the event (venue, refreshments). The committee selects feisty awardees from nominees who "embody the mission and vision of WCC, demonstrating a courageous, energetic, enterprising, and creative approach to promoting the greater good of our community. "
While the event is free, the invitation encourages donations. Funds raised by the event support the Marian Spencer Education Awards. STANDING COMMITTEES
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE is responsible for recruiting, engaging and retaining new members. The committee reaches out to new members to find out their interests and how they may want to volunteer. At least twice a year, the committee sponsors events where new members can learn about the club, such as "WCC 101." It designs and offers special member-only events such as Sunday salons, field trips, and an annual "potluck in the park." They design and carry out ways to recruit new members.
For more information and to join the committee, contact Laurie Frank.
COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE works to ensure effective internal and external communications about Woman’s City Club activities, enhance the Club’s profile in Greater Cincinnati, and provide a public platform for the civic voice. It connects members and friends in the community through its website, bi-monthly Bulletins, Monday Updates, social media, flyers, and press releases.
Committee members keep the website up to date and vibrant in collaboration with the WCC administrator. They market WCC programs and special events in collaboration with their sponsoring committees. They collect and publish articles for the bi-monthly bulletin: upcoming forums, book club, committee news, and reports about recent programs and events, a message from the president, and more. A few members work with the WCC administrator putting the Update together each week in gathering items, organization, and proofreading.
For more information and to join the committee, contact Sarah Muncey, chair.
